Pakelo supports Italian daredevils
Elefantentreffen (Elephants Rally) is a shared challenge that represents a great passion for extreme journeys on two wheels. Have you ever heard anything about this German winter motorcycle rally before? After this reportage you would be seduced so much by its rough allure that you would probably strive to get more information in order to participate to the next round. This epic motorcycle rally brings together adventure, exertion, companionship and satisfaction, a perfect mix for true motorcycles’ lovers. Elefantentreffen was born in 1956 as a meeting for Zundapp-KS-601Gespanne, which are sidecar motorcycles called ‘Green Elephants’ for their huge dimensions. This model was very common in the German army during the Second World War. At the beginning people met near the legendary circuit of Nürburgring but the turnout of tribes from every corner of Europe increased so much over the years that it was necessary to look for a better location. From 1988 the event takes place on the first weekend in February or on the last weekend in January in a valley between the towns of Thurmansbang and Solla in the Bavarian forest in Germany. It is organized by the Federal Association of Motorcycle Riders in Germany and attracts 7.000-8.000 bikers from all over Europe.
Among them there’s a very loyal group of Italian riders grouping the most of the Italian expedition to the rally. Riccardo di Domenico, alias RiccardiX the Great, together with the so called ‘Engineers of the Treffen’ (his oldest companions) has been leading this group for ten years. He basically takes care of the reunion and the organization of the journey to the rally both for veterans and for the newcomers. His online community (www.elefantentreffen.com) was born five years ago and it represents one of the most attended forums around this topic. Especially in the period before the event the website scores 15.000 unique visitors per month. RiccardiX affirms: “Some of the Engineers are facing their 40th rally. It’s a struggle against cold and bad road conditions but it is also an epic journey made of friendship, sharing and freedom.”
Leaving for this journey means to take control of your own life. There’s no discrimination about nationality or motorcycle’s kind, the only important thing is the journey itself and the conquest of that state of mind that makes you feel free.
Since Pakelo loves challenges we asked RiccardiX to try our PAKELO Krypton MBK SAE 5W/40 for the rally. This fully synthetic motor oil is compatible with every kind of motorcycle (more or less new) with or without friction in oil bath. We suggested this oil because it’s very good with cold temperatures like those that might be found at the rally. The smoothness point is at -40°C but it keeps good viscosity rates even with high temperatures.
