Nicola Baldan was born in Piove di Sacco (Padua) on 30th May 1982 showing an unbridled passion for cars starting from an early age, but he joins the world of competitions as a kart driver only in 1998 eventually switching to car races in 2001. He competed with many teams and for various brands. With the Renault Clio he won two titles: in 2003 as best driver in the Clio Cup Italia Under 25 and in 2007 in the Clio Cup Italia Junior. From 2009 to 2012 he won two Italian and one European Championship at the Abarth 595 Trophy. In 2013 he was the Italian champion in the Mini Challenge and the following year with a Mercedes C63AMG he qualified third in the overall classification of Euro V8 Series and first among Mercedes drivers. After that he decides to move on to the powerful rear-wheel drive cars and starting from 2015 he competes with SEAT Motorsport Italia with which he won the SEAT Leon Cup 2016. He is now joining TCR Italy, the Italian tourism championship born in 2014, on board of his SEAT Leon Sport with the Pit Lane team and the technical equipment of Pakelo Racing oils. Right now we are halfway in the championship and after an excellent start, Nicola is in second place, only 8 points far from the first. In the last race of Monza (16th June) he collected two victories, climbing on the highest pitch of the podium as undisputed champion of the weekend.
- What impression do you have of the TCR Italia championship? Is it different or similar to the championships in which you competed before?
The TCR is a championship different from the previous ones I attended, because it has a higher level of professionalism.
- What results do you wish to get at TCR Italia?
I obviously aspire to victory, but it’s any easy target because drivers and cars’ manufactures are very strong and fierce.
- Who is your rival number 1?
Definitely Honda Civic which is now leading the overall classification. Its strength lies in the good combination of winning driver and powerful car, but I’m not too stressed about it because my SEAT Leon TCR isn’t any less challenging.
- Do you have future projects?
Based on the results of this year’s championships and thanks to the help of my sponsors, I hope I could upgrade to TCR World Cup one day.
- What about your collaboration with Pakelo Lubricants?
My collaboration with Pakelo Lubricants has been a success and a milestone for me. It’s really hard to find a sponsor that deeply understands and shares my passion for racing. I hope it’s just the beginning of a long term relationship
- In your opinion can a good lubricant affect the race performance?
A good engine oil certainly plays an important role during a race. In my kind of races, it is also particularly essential to have a good brake fluid for the braking system. That must work excellently!
