The Mythicals are coming back!
Barchetta-Sports Rally| 18th-21st June 2015
Pakelo keeps running its journey alongside the most important vintage car rallies in Italy. We are going to support “Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano” (18th-21st June 2015) for the third year in a row. This vintage car competition is pretty unique and if you keep reading you’ll discover why.
This regularity rally for vintage cars takes place every June in the North-East of Italy. The event was created 21 years ago by C.V.A.E. (Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca), the third vintage cars’ club in Italy. Its uniqueness consists in the fact that it reunites 70-80 rare examples of Barchetta Sports coming from all over the world. Barchetta Sports are open (with small or no windscreens) two-seater sport cars which were built for racing mostly in the 1940s-1950s. This style has also occasionally been revived by small manufacturers or specialist builders throughout the years.
The term ‘Barchetta’ was invented by Giovanni Canestrini, one of the editors of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the most important Italian sport newspaper, to describe the new Ferrari 166 MM displayed at the 1948 Turin Auto Show. In 1949 Ferrari 166 MM won the Mille Miglia, the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Targa Florio scoring an historical record. The name ‘Barchetta’ has been associated with the model ever since and it was adopted by Maranello House too.
C.V.A.E. (the club arranging Le Mitiche Sport a Bassano) was founded in 1961. The motto of the association is “the fight is more important than the victory.” This is the spirit of this regularity rally which puts together elegance, respect for historical values and the ageless beauty of Barchettas. This year the rally’s route passes through the Dolomites: Bassano del Grappa – Bolzano – Trento – Thiene – Marostica and it will touch Stelvio Pass at 656 feet. Watch the teaser of the rally:
