Epic start in TCR Asia Series
Asia Racing Team wins the first race in Sepang
Last 4th-6th September officially began the first season of Touring Car Racing (TCR) Asia Series. ART, which is technically supplied and supported by Pakelo Lubricants in the AFR championship, decided to accept the challenge and enter this new world made of heavily modified road-going cars. The beginning turned out to be very promising. Rodolfo Avila and Philippe Descombes of Asia Racing Team scored a great 1-2 during the historic opening event for the new TCR Asia Series at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia after qualifying their cars on the front row of the grid.
The two SEAT León cars of the Macau-based team had dominated qualifying earlier in the morning. First race was actually won by Avila, who set the rhythm of the following rounds. Race #2 and #3 were led by Philippe Descombes, Avila’s team-mate. The Frenchman skyrocketed to the top of the general ranking, 34 points ahead from the second driver Eric Kwong. The opening event couldn’t go better for ART, Pakelo’s protégé. The following race will be next 18th-20th September in Singapore at Marina Bay Street Circuit. ART is going to defend its leadership, but you know, attack is the best form of defense.
